SHIFTING BOUNDARIES

The human psyche is held together by boundaries; boundaries of what we are willing to do to others, and what we will let be done to ourselves.
Our initial boundaries are formed at birth from messages sent from the complexity of our central nervous system. Although as we live, boundaries shift, but usually each person develops some boundaries that become a strong line they will not cross over. These boundaries form the edges of our personality. Boundaries keep us safe but boundaries also cause war.
In this group of paintings I have placed a solitary child in direct relation to the strong black bands painted down the vertical edges of the canvas.
The child appears to be questioning the boundaries placed upon them by childhood but yet have no awareness of their own psychic boundaries that will limit them the most in life.
